Junior Sailing Race Teams   Optimist Green Fleet Race Team Session Dates: January 16th - May 15th Practices: Wednesday's 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm & Sunday's 10:00 am - 4:00 pm Price: Member $500, Non-Member $600, Regatta Fee $200    The Green Fleet Team is a beginner and intermediate level Optimist Race Program, designed to build on the basic sailing and rudimentary racing skills learned in our London Foggy Program.  The focus of the Green Fleet Team curriculum is to improve sailors' boathandling skills and rules knowledge and to teach them more about small boat racing, including tactics, various courses, with a particular emphasis on sportsmanship and the ability to take care of equipment.  The Green Fleet builds a strong foundation for both important sailing skills as well as personal connections and relationships that will prove important as the sailors become more exposed to the world of racing.  Younger sailors who have shown advancement in boathandling, seamanship, and general knowledge are eligible to participate in the Green Team, using personally owned or club chartered Optimist dinghies.  The non-refundable Optimist charter fee is $100 for a season, if sailors do not own an Optimist.     Optimist Red, White, Blue Race Team Session Dates: January 16th - May 15th Practices: Wednesday's 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm & Sunday's 10:00 am - 4:00 pm Price: Member $500, Non-Member $600, Regatta Fee $200 The Opti Race Team is for experienced sailors who are ready to compete at the highest level and are under 15 years of age.  The Optimist Race Team competes in many local events, but also prepares sailors for National and International Optimist events, focusing on advanced boathandling and tactics.  The sailors become exposed to a strong team atmosphere in which sailors are working hard both on and off the water as well as doing physical training.  Sailors on the Race Team are highly recommended to purchase their own Optimist.  Refer to the Key Biscayne Yacht Club Calendar for updates on regattas, clinics, and events.   FOR REGIONAL, NATIONAL, AND INTERNATIONAL OPTI NEWS, VISIT www.usoda.org.    Laser Race Team  Session Dates: January 18th - May 15th Practices: Tuesday's 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm Price: Member $650, Non-Member $750 The Laser Program is comprised of individuals who already have some racing experience, and are looking to improve their skippering skills in single handed boats.  Emphasis is put on advanced boat handling and strength, which are two vital components to successful sailing in the Laser.  In addition, the team learns racing tactics, strategy, seamanship, and other skills to excel on the race course.  A typical practice consists of daily chalk talks, running/swimming, on the water practice, and a de-brief at the end of each practice.  Sailors on the team are encouraged to buy their own boats, but the club has boats available for charter.  The program consists of practices as well as competing in either the 4.7, Radial, or Full Rig classes at local, regional, and national regattas. The non-refundable Laser charter fee is $150 for sailors who do not own a Laser.
